Away to the East

Away to the East,

A star hung,

In homage to the King.

Three tired travellers watched as it moved,

Casting its brightness,

Through the cold night air.

One was deep in thought,

‘It’s no good’ he said,

‘That star is still too loose,

A good wind will leave it fall on Santa’s head,’

He smiled.

Two held the ladder in place,

And Three pulled a coil of wire,

From a plastic bag.

Ten minutes later there was no danger to Santa,

And, viewed from a distance,

The entire estate,

Was clad in neon joy.
