My Black Dog and Me

It’s a pet that you will never lose,

No need to feed it cos it feeds on you,

One owner always it will be your friend,

A close companion to the very end.

It’s a dog,

It’s a dog,

Just my black dog and me.

I really like it when we walk in the park,

I really like it when the lights all go dark,

No one can see me when I hide in the pen,

Unless they catch the amber glow now and then.

It’s a dog,

It’s a dog,

Just my black dog and me.

You have to try,

Bruising it, confusing it,

Ultimately losing it,

And then …

You must comply,

Aiding and abetting,

In the crime.

The jest on your part,

Is the rest in your heart,

When it’s gone.

It’s a dog,

It’s a dog,

Just my black dog and me.

Burying bones for later

Head in the ground

Digging up the old ones

Making a mound.

Nobody knows the awful cause of the hole,

Just digging up mountains till the sky is like coal.

It’s a dog,

It’s a dog,

Just my black dog and me.
